Alexandre Tharaud’s latest album features three world premiere recordings - namely, three piano concertos written for and dedicated to him by contemporary composers, each recorded with a different orchestra and conductor. Alex Nante said his Luz de Lejos aimed to “explore particular interpretative facets that he [Tharaud] possesses”, whilst Thierry Pécou’s Cara Bali Concerto is inspired by gong kebyar, a style of Balinese gamelan music of Indonesia. Ramon Lazkano’s Mare Marginis was motivated by a desire to “explore the keyboard anew… in order to extract the hidden resonances”.
