Works For Guitar Sextet

O que torna interessante a junção de seis violões não é apenas a riqueza da sonoridade do conjunto, mas também a forma como ele pode se moldar com naturalidade a uma variedade enorme de repertório, conforme mostra neste disco o grupo Guitarra a Seis. O grupo foi formado em 2011 por músicos de diferentes países: Matthias Kläger, Jens Stibal, Pino Feola, Edmauro de Oliveira, Christoph Borter e Harald Stampa. E abre a gravação com uma versão do Concerto de Brandemburgo nº 3, seguida de Ma mère l’Oye, de Ravel. Em seguida, obras dedicadas ao grupo por diferentes autores. De Sergio Assad, eles tocam Juan Sebastian’s Bar, que evoca Bach e Beethoven em diálogo com a música brasileira. De Tobias Krebs, a Suíte pan-americana, em que é marcante a influência do jazz. Atanas Ourkouzounov une o folclore e a vanguarda da música búlgara em Codex Bulgaricus. E Marco de Biasi explora as possíveis relações entre a pintura e a música em Ipercubo. Para completar, um divertido arranjo da abertura da ópera L’italiana in Algeri, de Rossini, prova da variedade e da riqueza de coloridos que o conjunto é capaz de criar e explorar.

With specially made instruments and a range that can emulate that of a whole orchestra, the acclaimed Guitarra a Seis bring us a colourful programme that includes works written specially for the ensemble. Opening with a real feast for the ears in Bach’s lively Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, we further encounter the magical moods of Ravel’s Ma mère l’Oye, a blend of Bulgarian folk and modern music from Atanas Ourkouzounov, Tobias Krebs’ jazz-infused Suite Panamericana, and Sérgio Assad’s humorous Juan Sebastian’s Bar, which alludes to Bach and Beethoven but is Brazilian through and through. The guitar sextet Guitarra a Seis was founded in Zurich in 2012. The founder members include the three German guitarists Jens Stibal, Harald Stampa and Matthias Kläger as well as the Brazilian guitarist Edmauro de Oliveira. The Polish guitarist Adam Olenczak joined in 2016, followed by the Swiss guitarist and composer Tobias Krebs in 2019. This is Guitarra a Seis’ debut on the Naxos label, but this is an ensemble that has already established European renown in the guitar world and beyond for its innovative approach to performing and its imaginative programming of arrangements and original works, some of which have achieved wide exposure through a number of high-quality YouTube videos.
